15 Minutes…on the Red Carpet (Derby Eve at The Julep)

Louisville just wrapped up the 138th Kentucky Derby – it’s called “the most exciting two minutes in sports” for a reason – and it brings celebrities and notables old and new to the Bluegrass state every year. There really is no better time to be in Louisville and this year, I had the opportunity to chat with some of our guests as they arrived at both The Julep (an extraordinary gala benefiting the James Graham Brown Cancer Center) on the night before Derby, and at Kentucky Derby 138 at historic Churchill Downs on Saturday.

As I met invited guests along the red carpet at The Julep, I had but one burning question for them all: If you learned the world would end tonight, what would you want to be wearing?  Here’s what some of them had to say about what they would (or wouldn’t) want to wear at the end…

GLEE‘s Max Adler (who attended with girlfriend, Jennifer Bronstein) said he’d wear a tuxedo for such a big event, while Jonathan Kite (Two Broke Girls), also wanting to be well-dressed for the end of the world, chose Tom Ford.

Star Jones (who wore a dazzling blue sequin cocktial dress she said she purchased at a boutique in Paris) said it wouldn’t matter to her what she was wearing if she knew the world was ending; it would only matter that she was with family and loved ones.

Christian Siriano, winner of Project Runway (Season 4) who has since launched his own collection received with much critical praise, said he’d wear,”something crazy…like a feathered gown or something”. That makes me hope I’m wherever Christian is when the world ends.

I was surprised by how many celebs claimed they’d want to be in their Birthday suits at the end of the world. Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond), Rodney Adkins (who performed live at the party), David Arquette, and one of my favorite people on the planet, Fred Willard (who completely made my night by taking a photo with me that looks like we are on a  date!) all said they were likely to be naked at the end of the world if they knew it was coming. That seems like a pretty good party.

But my favorite answer of the night came from Gunnar Deatherage, creator and designer (Deatherage Designs), stylist, and makeup artist, who wore his own creation to the gala. When I asked, If you knew the world were ending tonight, what you want to be wearing?, Gunnar replied; “This. I’d want to be wearing this. I love what I’m wearing right now.”
